The goals of the project OWLA were to develop design methods, techniques, tools and principles for the design of Web-based and wireless information systems that recognize the special requirements set by different platforms and, on the other hand, adapt the functionality based on e.g. user, task or domain information. The basic ideas for the project derived from viewing the web as hypermedia, and the development of web applications as information systems design. This includes understanding advanced hypermedia functionality, such as annotations, metadata and rich linking - but also focus on the (software) processes in organizations. The work was done at the HYTEC lab in collaboration with the participating companies plus other research projects at the information processing sciences department at the university of Oulu, Finland,. Especially the projects of the Virgin research group, such as VRFlow on electronic commerce, and MONICA and Paula on mobile service development, were among partners. OWLA also belonged to the Mobile Forum Oulu programme. MFO is a consortium devoted to advancement of mobile technologies and services in Oulu area. The near-three project started in March 2000, the basic research was done , and during autumn 2001 we moved towards implementations in case-studies to try out the ideas in practise in collaboration with companies in the industry. Then during spring 2002 we started analysing the end results and drawing up conclusions to form design guidelines / methodology fragments. The project ended by the end of 2002. We are now working on follow-ups, in the OASIS research group. |
